Dec 2019 – Royal Society SPEAC Discussion
It was a real pleasure to give a short talk at the Royal Society’s Science Policy Expert Advisory Committee (SPEAC) Christmas dinner. Charles Parton (OBE) and I each provided our views on how to promote accountable and productive international science collaborations, especially in relation to China.
It was a rare opportunity to discuss transnational research collaborations with a group of highly distinguished scientists. The conversation was insightful. (And it was the first time that I delivered a talk between starter and the main!) I thank the RS’s International Affairs office for the invitation and for their kind email afterwards:
I’m also really glad to see Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser again, who gave a thought-provoking keynote, ‘Scientist, Public and the Great Wall’ at my ESRC project’s final conference at the British Academy two years ago.
