Recent Work Relating to Human Genome Editing

It was a privilege to be a main speaker again at the Third International Summit on Human Genome Editing on 6-8 March 2023 at the Francis Crick Institute. It was also a great pleasure to meet up with so many friends that I haven’t been able to see for quite a long time due to COVID.
You can find the recording of my talk here (Day 1, Monday, starting 1:16:00). My short input was on the paradoxes underlying key trends in China’s science governance and their impact on global research.
My views were cited by BBC News, El Pais, Nature, South China Morning Post,Science, Statnews, The British Medical Journal, The Paper, Times radio (starting 01:44:00), Times Higher Education and many other news outlets.
The Hastings Center of Bioethics also published my co-authored piece on China’s new ethical review rules.
After the Summit, Kathleen Vogel, Sonia Ben Ouagrham-Gormley and I also hosted a 2-day workshop, ‘Global Engagement on Human Germline Genome Editing’, at the Senate House in London. A main focus of the discussion was on challenges regarding UK-China and US-China research collaborations in the life sciences. The conference report will be released soon. We will continue the conversation in September in Chengdu, China.
